That’s right, Kiss is coming to Halifax!!!
I can’t even describe how awesome that is. I’ve got at least a dozen Kiss CDs upstairs in my collection and have been a fan ever since I was flipping through my Uncle’s vinyl albums and stumbled across Destroyer.
As soon as I saw that cover, I was stunned. What the heck is this, I thought.
It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the music since Alive! wasn’t much further in the pile of albums.
As I’ve grown older and listened to more music, played a bit of my own and expanded my horizons a little, I’ve come to understand and realise what Kiss really is. They’re a rock and roll band that had a lot of catchy rock and roll songs but didn’t necessarily contribute much to the “art” of music. But on the other hand, they’re a friggin awesome rock and roll band that had a lot of awesome rock songs that introduced the world to live shows the likes of which had never been witnessed. Art in music has its place, but if it were the only thing that mattered we’d be listening to a lot more classical music in concert halls. I want the flames, the explosions and the big loud guitar. I mean really, how can you not want to go see stuff like this live.
Seriously!
Needless to say, I’m going to be there. I had huge crowds and I hate the heat in the middle of the summer, but I’m going to be there anyways. I’m so excited that I’m actually going to get to see Kiss!

Would be kind of difficult to accomodate all their fans in a concert hall, and the management wouldn’t take too kindly to the doped up fans trashing the place.

that video was incredible. pure rock’n'roll showmanship.
it’s interesting that you would say that KISS was not “art rock” though, ’cause when you consider how they became big it was all about (in my humble opinion…) the look: the make-up, explosions, etc.. to me they represent more the artistic aesthetic of rock music than the music itself. kind of like the gore-rock costume-wearing ridiculousness of the band “GWAR”, which featured a bunch of art students dressed up like monsters who probably have the most over-the-top stage show you’ve ever seen.. (unless you count “extreme elvis”…). when it comes to them it’s all about the shows; no one really cares about the music. and yet still: no one would deny that they, like KISS, truly do “ROCK”.
