My wife and I went to a dingy little bar on Robie to meet up with some people for what was supposed to be some pretty awesome karaoke. I’d post a link to the place, but both Google and Firefox have it flagged as a site that may attack your computer… Yeah, it’s that sketchy of a place. So why go to such a place? The karaoke guy.
His name is Laurie The Guy and man, the guy is awesome. Normally, karaoke isn’t about the person putting on the karaoke night, but this dude is one hell of an entertainer. From the website to his banner that he hangs in the background, the whole operation looks pretty sketchy, but if you go see him, there’s no way you can leave without a huge smile on your face. I mean, a two foot long elephant trunk codpiece is pretty funny in and of itself, but man when he did his final site gag with both my wife and I had tears in our eyes.
The karaoke itself was karaoke. Some bad, some good, but there was a solid stream of people and you could see the regulars talking to each other. I felt like I was in that movie with Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Louis. The shock of the night though came when some guy went up and I heard Pantera, Walk (R.I.P. Dimebag).
Now Pantera is an acquired taste. It works on a certain level when you have the four amazingly talented individuals they had. When you try and get some random dude try to sing this stuff… Well to say it falls short is a bit of an understatement. But I have to hand it to the dude, I’d never heard Pantera at a karaoke before, so I was exposed to something new.

I’ve never tried karaoke myself, never had the guts to do it really. I never even thought that any place would put Pantera on a karaoke machine, but anything can happen and would have been interesting to see.

I find it hard to sing in my own nathroom, let alone a karaoke. Kinda tin ear, so I think the world is better off without having to suffer through my musical talent.

I did some karaoke a couple weeks ago. Totally embarrassed myself by doing the Fresh Prince of Bel Air Theme. Thank You.

I would kill to hear Pantera at Karaoke it would be immense. All I get to hear is Whitney Houston sung out of key. Give me a bit of Dimebag any day

Не думаю, что юмор здесь уместен.

Pantera in Philippine Karaoke is a 1/1000000 phenomenon. “My way” by old blue eyes is the karaoke anthem here. LOL

The best karaoke I’ve ever heard was in Germany in a town near an Air Force base… a lot of hilarious death metal.

“I’d never heard Pantera at a karaoke before” I don’t think I’d ever want to hear Pantera at a karaoke! But it did look like you guys had a great time.

Dude – Pantera Karaoke? That was truly exposing you to something new. Hard to imagine it – but we don’t have to when video is provided!

Metal flavored Karaoke is raging… but not a new scene. I remember a place on St. Croix that did Karaoke with Black Sabbath long ago. It’s a great experience in any language and any country – as long as the singer is half way good or better. Cheers

That had to be pretty impressive to hear. The crowd must’ve went crazy, I know I would have been out of my seat.
