I signed up for Text Link Ads 8 days ago and I have to say that so far, I’m not holding my breath. I’m currently on page 26/80 in terms of websites waiting for ads (newest are on page 1, oldest on page 80). Most of the sites submitted at the same time as mine have yet to get so much as a nibble with about 10% having 1 spot taken up by an advertiser. I ventured down to page 80 today to see how bright the light is at the end of the tunnel and I have to say that it’s only a few watts brighter. Many websites on page 80 show no advertisers at all though those that do have advertisers have a handful.
All of this points to one thing. A significant problem with ad inventory. Seeing as it’s a far more difficult prospect to convince people to part with their money than to give give up a link in exchange for cash, I don’t suspect the situation will remedy itself anytime soon.
To compound Text Link Ads’ ad inventory problem, they offer very little to the webmaster sitting around waiting for the ads to roll in. Some sort of average waiting time for advertisers to bite maybe? Perhaps a list of things you can do to make your submission more attractive to their inventory of advertisers? It would be nice to have some idea as to whether or not I’m making progress.
They have offer an affiliate program that could get something going, so if you’re interested in using them to monetize your site, give it a try. Like I said, although it’s been a little gloomy from my perspective there are sites that submitted at the same time as mine and they’ve had some takers.
