Over the weekend, I stopped by Musicstop on Cunard st. and found something that really blew me away. First some background.
Musicstop has long had the worst prices in Canada on musical equipment of all sorts. A while ago they were bought by Long and McQuade, Canada’s biggest music equipment retailer. With the purchasing ability of such a big company, I hoped that the prices would come down a great deal. I stopped in over the summer and while some of the prices had gotten better, the biggest change I saw was in the cosmetics of the store.
This weekend though, I was floored to see that not only had prices become competitive. They had become really competitive. So competitive in fact, that their regular tag pricing is matching Musician’s Friend’s pricing. That’s pretty astounding given that while our dollar is at par, we usually run 10% more expensive anyways. That goes without saying that Musician’s Friend does massive volume being the Internet’s biggest music gear merchant.
Overall, I’m beaming as a result since I can’t buy some stuff through Musician’s Friend, like Fender gear and half-stacks. Now… Just need to find some money to blow on music gear.

Mabe its just that time of the year. I know where I am at that prices on guitars, amps and other things have dropped quite a bit.

They definitely had some sales going, but the guitars I was comparing had their regular stock sticker. Also, if it’s on sale locally, it’s usually either no longer available at Musiciansfriend or is on sale there as well.
