Kicking Off 2008 With A Kick

January 6th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Well it seems that when it comes to this blog, I’m already repeating mistakes made in 2007.

You see not so long ago, I lost a lot of traffic due to a mistake. I fixed the mistake, but the lack of traffic became disappointing and I moved away from writing to target that segment of my audience. Several months later when my traffic returned I realised that I had not chosen well. If any other blogger had come to me with the concerns I had, I would have encouraged them 100% to keep working as though nothing had happened. This was a glitch and things would return to normal eventually. I’m really quite terrible at following my own advice.

Looking back over the last couple of weeks, I realise that I’m repeating that behaviour once more. Since my income has decreased rather dramatically, I’ve lost some interest in this particular venture. That’s a big mistake and I should know better. While one of the programs I participated heavily in appears to be on it’s last leg and set to shut down quietly as so many startups do, that means there’s more opportunity. I’ve been restricted from certain forms of advertising because of the constraints of that system. Well, unless they have a miracle turnaround in the next month or so, all of my commitments will expire and I’ll be free to explore things that have been beyond my reach over the last year.

It’s time to take a positive look at things. There’s opportunity out there, time to go out and find it :)

It seems you have lost your enthusiasm but you need to remember your wins not your losses. I was so impressed with your site. You did it once you can do it again, you know how to fix what was wrong. That is the first step. You go…

    Hey Marc,

    it’s a vicious circle, isn’t it.

You post a lot of good content and get readers. You post some more, and get more readers.

But whenever you’re gone for a moment, visitors drop. Your motivation drops, new posts drop, visitors drop!

From a business standpoint, I want to suggest you hire a ghostwriter/guestblogger to keep your blog up to date with fresh content whenever you lack the motivation to add fresh new content.

Might not be the real ‘you’ posting, but at least you’re keeping your blog (and it’s income) up!

Always a mistake to let a blog drift on it’s own. At the very least, take 5 minutes to make at least one post everyday about something related to the subject. If nothing else, just post a couple of links with daily news. Keeps the blog alive.

Yes, blogging to a certain segment is definitely more powerful than trying to be everything to everyone. We always make sure and stay focused on our customers eds from us when blogging so we are always adding value. Keep up the good work and focus!

The good thing is you realized that you’re into it again this early. Keep those blogs coming. You have done so well already.

I think everyone has had the same problems with traffic as of late. All bloggers. Maybe its got to do with the last page rank or something. Anyway good luck for a successful 2008.
