In my new position, I’ve encountered yet another heavily used website that has gone completely unoptimized over time. Unfortunately that’s going to mean a significant amount of work in the coming months, but on the bright side, I get to use the sharpest knives in my skill set fairly early on
This time around though, the site is very different than any I’ve done in the past. While there has been significant effort put into designing a sensible navigation structure, there are many aspects that appear disjoint and out of place from an outside user’s perspective. That means that I’m going to begin developing some strategies that are going to tackle both issues at once. While the two are often intertwined anyways, it does make the job a little bit bigger.
The first part, as is for most SEO projects is to identify key content. This is the stuff that has a lot of value for your visitors and is hopefully fairly unique material. The good news is that I have wonderful content to work with and it is fairly unique, so I’m once more blessed with a great base to start from. With any luck we’ll be able to work to bring our content out to a broader audience within a few short months.
