Testing Out Two Webmaster Tools

October 24th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Web Development

I’ve been putting off testing out Google Analytics for no particular reason, but with the arrival or Google Coop, I had some interest in testing it out, so I tossed in Analytics as well to see how it performs. So far so good, everything has been deployed on About A Webmaster with relative ease.

Google Coop is new, but man they’ve really got to get their usability gear together on this. Logging in from the Coop webpage and then going to edit the preferences on your search engine is absurdly difficult. The analytics setup so far has been alright. I haven’t got any stats in yet so I can’t coment on tose pages at the moment. Thought the analytics interface is dramatically better than Google Coop, it still lacks integration wtih other Google products. The best Google’s been able to do in that regard is that if we log in to our account, we get a list of products we’re sbscribed for, but will rarely be able to return to this navigational hub. It’s really a pain and something that Google’s been doing poorly for years now.

Once data starts flowing I’ll be sure to tune in again and let you all know how things are working out for me.

We stuck Analytics on a work site over the summer; it actually gives you some pretty cool/useful data on traffic patterns. Like Sitemaps, it’s kinda the thing that makes you sit back and wonder why nobody did it (or at least did it well) before.
