My colleagues and I have been pulling parts off of a busted Xerox and wow, what a gold mine! I’ve got one of the heaviest stepper motors I’ve seen, a motor with a built in encoder and a whole pile of other goodies. Gears, pulleys, belts, wiring harnesses, an LCD screen, a miniature air pump/compressor? It was just chock full of stuff that a guy like me can really sink his teeth into. Metaphorically of course…
The god news is I’ve got a bunch of great stuff to start my junk pile. The bad news is that my wife will be unimpressed if she find out that I’ve started a junk pile. Good thing she never reads this blog
For those wondering about the robot build, I’ve been pre-occupied with working on my thesis as of late. That has meant a slowdown in my side projects. As expected I haven’t even had time to set up my band saw yet. Once I have that set up I can start working on the mounts for the bearings that will hold the hubs. Then I can figure out just how much play I can work with in the hubs. So if you’re waiting for robot updates they will come. It may just take a while.

Congrats, you are well on your way to becoming Sanford & Son. If you run out of things to dismantle there is plenty of things that you can have at my house that don’t work.

Thanks for the offer Barry. I’m sure I’ll have my hands full around here
