John Chow’s Ebook

August 10th, 2007 · 3 Comments

John Chow released an ebook earlier this year. The book was largely a summary of his better posts relating to making money online. John’s written some very useful things on the topic throughout his blog so it’s really nice to have a concise summary of this kind of information.

While something like this sounds very appealing, what proof do you have that it will actually work for you? Well John’s about to put his money where his mouth is, literally. With a $100 budget, John’s going to set out to create an anonymous blog that will generate real revenue. He’s leaving it up to his readership to determine what revenue target he should aim for. Most people are saying that anywhere from $3000-$4000 would make him a “somebody”. While that’s certainly an impressive amount of revenue, for me it’s not enough to make you into a “somebody” within the blogosphere.

For me, $10 000/month is the magic number. From what I’ve seen online, you generally need to be pulling enough traffic to generate that amount per month in order for people to have an idea of who you are. It doesn’t have so much to do with the actual dollar figure, but more with the required readership/traffic needed to be able to consistently meet that target. Sure $4000 a month is enough to earn a living which is the big target for many people trying to earn money online. But just because you’re making a living doesn’t make you a somebody. It’s possible to earn enough to live on without having a notable blog, hence without being a “somebody”.

I can’t wait to see the results of John’s efforts. I have no doubt that he can reach whatever target he sets for himself, it’s all just a matter of time.

I’m curious to see if he will go through with it. He can definitely reach whatever target he sets for himself, but it would take a lot of work and time. My bet is that he will forget all about it after a few more updates.

I noticed on the Johnchow.com comments that you said you earn about $500/month from this blog. I write the mmoexplorer.com blog. Would you check out my blog and give me your insights on how I could start to generate around $500 per month with this blog? I would love to get your opinion. Thanks

Alan, I think he’ll stick to it, he’s a pretty stubborn guy when it comes to success ;)

Fred, my major source of income here is PayPerPost. It’s a very sharp knife that may cut me pretty bad any day now. Use it at your own risk :) Other than that, get some page rank and get some traffic. Those are things that will help any of your advertising strategies.
