Now that I’m back from vacation I can toss up another update. Before leaving, I managed to get the sides installed. I picked up the 4 inch bolts that I needed and I used some newly purchased files to file down some of the mis-aligned plexiglass slots/tabs. Things are moving ahead quite well but I still have a few challenges ahead of me.
I picked up a 3000 mah NiMH battery and charger at Great Hobbies just outside Charlottetown, PEI while we were in the neighbourhood. That’s by far the best hobby shop I’ve ever set foot in. If you’re into R/C and are traveling nearby, make a stop, they’re a very impressive business right in our backyard.
Getting back to the robot though, here are a couple of pictures with the sides in. I just inserted the sprockets in, but their shafts will be cut shorter and mated to the motors that will be mounted to the sides.
Here are the current pics:

This is cool, but what are you going to do with it when it is finished?

Well when it’s finished, the initial plan is to have it be a simple avoider. It will be able to roam around and not bump into things. After that I have a few ideas in mind, including cat chasing (would require another sensor), mapping, stair climbing, etc…
I have no real “purpose” for the robot aside from significant enjoyment and improvement of my design and construction skills. I’ve just got a lot of mad scientist in me and I need to find outlets for it
