Say The Time is an interesting little program that helps you get the most out of your good old fashioned clock down in the right hand corner of your screen. It does this by allowing you set up reminders, appointments and notes that go along with your computer’s clock. But at the core of the program, is the feature found in the name, Say The Time. You can get your computer to tell you what time it is as frequently or infrequently as you like. There’s a setting where you can tell it to say the time one the hour every hour for example. If you easily lose track of time while working or gaming at your computer, this can be an invaluable reminder. I know that I often lose track of time as lunchtime approaches. Say the time also allows you to set a blackout period so your computer doesn’t go jabbering on through the middle of the night
You can either set it to a male voice or a female voice, depending on your personal preference. Both voices are pretty nice so I don’t personally have any preference.
While the software itself looks to be relatively light weight (less than an 8 MB download), it actually has a lot of features built into it. For the reminders, you’re presented with an interface similar to other organizers, but with a few extra features. Beyond having the system tell you the time once a reminder arrives, you can also either play a sound file of your own or run a program. Why would you want to do these things? Well you can use your computer as an alarm clock with a custom alarm. Do you hate that grinding beep that comes from almost every alarm clock out there, yet can’t wake up to the radio? Set up Say The Time to play some chimes or something a bit more peaceful in order to wake you up on a more positive note. As for running a program, that could be great for running scheduled tasks like backups.
They’ve also added sticky note functionality. This allows you to write yourself notes and stick them on your desktop. This can very handy if, like me, you’re on your computer while you answer the phone and need to jot down a number or a name while you’re talking.
Also to add to your regular clock, they have added a stopwatch and a countdown timer. There are lots of ways to use either one of these features. Countdown can be used when you’re promised yourself you would spend no more than one hour on a particular task. Set the timer and Say The Time will tell you when the hour’s up.
If any of this sounds appealing to you, go download Say the Time now and try it out for a 30 day trial.
