As you may or may not know I’m building my own Orange Squeezer guitar pedal. I’ve never built my own pedal so this is all new to me. The first thing I had to do was to draw a layout since I’m going to be using regular pad-per-hole breadboard instead of a custom etched board. The plans I found only had the original schematic and the etched board on it. Working from the original schematic, I managed to come up with the following.

All the little circles are resistors stood up on end. This layout is about my seventh or eighth attempt. Making a layout that works is easy, making one that takes up as little space as it can is a whole other thing… I’m sure people trained in this field would cringe at my layout, but keep in mind I’m just a guy getting his feet wet here. I’m sure I’ve got a huge amount to learn about electronics as has been demonstarted by the amount I’ve already learned. At the end of the day, I just need the thing to work. Any amount of quality or prettiness that comes out of this project will be accidental. The only attribute that I have planned into this project is the awesomeness of having built my own pedal.
Now that I have my layout I’ll soon start the soldering process. I got about half of my parts in the mail at the end of last week.

These parts include everything that will go on the breadboard itself. The other half of the parts that are enroute include things like the enclosure and a bunch of offboard parts like the pot, switch, led, etc…
I hope to find the time to start building the Orange Squeezer this week. It’s a busy week though so I’ll have to wait and see. Here’s hoping though.
