Burn Notice On USA Network

Continuing on USA Network’s Burn Notice, starting on June 28th, I had to ask myself, what kind of gear would I use if I were a spy. I thought about this a lot when I was younger as this type of thing seemed like a perfectly sensible career option at the time. The first thing I found out that you need as a spy is several fake IDs.

Unlike James Bond who gives up his real name at the drop of a hat, a real spy needs to be able to slip in, slip out and disappear. The easiest way to do that is as someone else. That way any follow up leads to dead ends.

Next, I’d need gadgets. The hallmark of all great spies in movies are their gadgets. I like the non-lethal spy who relies on their wits to get through tough situations rather than the one that needs to resort to blowing everything up. Nano R/C helis that are near silent for spying on targets, cars that have all kinds of defensive and offensive capabilities, pens that do everything… You name it, I’m into it.

Of course none of those gadgets develop themselves so I’ll need the trusted side kick. Very much the traditionalist, my sidekick should be super smart, fairly geeky and always ends up getting themselves into trouble.

This roughly outlines the kind of stuff that I’d need in order to become a spy myself. I’m curious to see how Burn Notice develops the Michael Westen character. Will he be the intelligent spy who uses his wits to reach his ends or will he be a “Mr. Blowupeverything”. Only time will tell.
