IDrive Backups

I’ve written about IDrive before and from that I’m sure you’re aware that I think they’ve got a pretty cool product. Well in the intervening months they’ve made it even cooler :) IDrive-E Online Backup now offers a free 2GB account!

That makes a lot of sense when you think about it. It’s not uncommon to have a hard time convincing people of the value of backups until it’s too late. By offering the free service for a relatively small, feature loaded account people can mess around with it and learn to appreciate and understand the value that they’re offering. Nothing helps you to understand just how important a backup system is like actually needing it and having it work properly. Suddenly it all comes to you in a great big sigh of relief, “Thank God that was backed up!”

IDrive offers up to 30 different versions of any particular file that you’ve flagged to be backed up. They are backed up incrementally meaning that you’ll be able to get to several different versions of a given file. The other advantage to that is that if you don’t change a file, the system won’t back it up, saving your backup space. You’ll only use what you need.

Using a windows-like interface, you can drag and drop files from your online backup to your PC. They’re read only meaning that you won’t accidentally delete files on your backup system or accidentally overwrite them.

So with a free package available, what is there to lose? Give it a try and see if you like it.
