RockStartup.com, if you haven’t heard, is a video documentary of the trials and tribulations of PayPerPost in a reality tv format. The latest incarnation strikes at the very core of reality show entertainment. Bloopers! The great thing about reality tv is that you get to watch some of the wackiness of real life. Granted it’s always edited so it’s not necessarily true “reality”, but the producers know that this is the kind of stuff we like to watch. So here’s a whole episode of our favourite kind of stuff.
While it’s sometimes funny to hear the bleeps of people swearing when they shouldn’t the real funny stuff happens when people say stuff that comes out sounding odd. My favourite part of the whole episode is when Ted’s talking about making “deposits in the love bank”, that’s classic.
Overall I still like the concept of RockStartup. I haven’t been keeping up on the episodes, but when I do come across them they do provide a unique glimpse into the world of getting a company off the ground. I’ve been involved in a startup before but I was just doing part-time system administration and as a result didn’t really get a good look at all the nuts and blots of the broader picture.
This show also gives much more insight into one of the major PPP players, Ted Murphy. As a publisher, I’m not thrilled with the way things are going overall, but have to give him credit for taking the idea to a viable stage. After watching this, all I have to say is that he must be a hell of a business guy.
The production values are great for a web based show. It’s got a great mix of quality video while maintaining that reality aspect with the hand held shooting and the guerrilla shooting locations. With so many episodes behind them, we can expect to see many more. Will we see an IPO episode someday?
