Writing for a blog has been one of the most interesting things I’ve done over the last year in the arena of the web. I had traditionally stuck to more fact based websites, using About A Webmaster to spread my opinion pieces. But blogging has brought out a very interesting side of my writing that I don’t think I would have found otherwise.
Now that doesn’t mean that you’re getting completely uncensored writing here. Quite the opposite. One of the things that I’ve found is that I actually have to self-censor even more. While it’s very easy to keep heavy opinion out of an article based site, you’re expected to give a piece of your mind on your blog. That’s all fine and dandy, but on my travels through the blogosphere, one thing I’ve found is that the heavily laden ranting generally isn’t much fun to read. I’m not talking about fact based criticisms. I’m talking about those who just hate something for some reason you can’t discern and try to communicate that through paragraphs full of vulgarity.
I’m human, I’ve had my moments where I’ve wanted to come home and blog about something or other that I wasn’t happy with and just tear into someone or something. I’ve even gone over my normal “line” a few days ago with my PPP frustrations. So it’s a struggle to keep the blog either positive or laden with facts to back up my criticisms. People generally prefer this type of writing over the previously mentioned rants.
When I do find myself struck with the urge to rant and rave I try to remember the following quote I heard from a comedian on Just For Laughs:
blogging, writing“Do you know who cares less about your problems than you do? Everybody.”
