I’m back up to 5/5 tacks on PayPerPost. I’m quite proud of that because it stands as a testament to advertisers that what I do makes other advertisers happy. While that sounds simplistic, it’s essentially a persistent set of references that other advertisers can call upon as they use the system. At some point, some the advertisers are going to realise that while Page Rank and Alexa Rank are important considerations, the quality of the posts matter so very very much.
A battle is brewing between bloggers and search engines. I know who’s going to win that battle, but there are a bunch of bloggers who are going to serve as cannon fodder in the first round. These are low quality made for advertising blogs. Blogs that have better writing will survive much longer if not indefinitely due to the fact that they are providing genuinely useful information, sponsored or not. Will mine survive the initial volleys? It’s hard to say but I’d like to think so. I write pretty solid original copy and search engines tend to like that in general. That means that unless they go to outright manual bans (which is highly unlikely in Google’s case) there should be enough quality elements to keep me away from any filter thresholds.
What will I do if I suffer the wrath of the engines? It’s hard to say for certain. It will depend entirely on the climate at the time. I’m already in a position where I may have to drop one of my sponsored post programs. If I’m only bringing in a small amount from sponsored posts at that time, I could easily give it up altogether. If on the other hand 90% of my income is generated from those sponsored posts and it’s still a viable option despite the loss of traffic I could easily find myself continuing to do it and banning search engine bots.
In the meantime I’m basking in the artificial glory of being assigned a rank based on the quality of my work by people who I don’t know
