Well it seems as though I’m not going to win. That being said, if there are any of you out there who haven’t voted yet, I would still like the support. I am still pursuing some venues so every little bit still helps.
So where did it all go wrong? Well there were a couple of issues. I lost a whole bunch of early votes because the Blogger’s Choice Awards doesn’t seem to work with Hotmail. I’m not sure who’s issue it is, but the two seem to be incompatible.
The plan was to take an early lead and use that momentum to get straggler votes from the general public. Voting for the site already in first place isn’t that bad a plan if you don’t care about the category.
I also assumed that there wouldn’t be any terrible websites in this category. I suspected some people would nominate their friends as a joke or nominate some of the PPP haters. That was a bad assumption. Turns out the website currently in first place is a truly terrible blog. That’s been killing me. The PPP community also seems to have a hate on for this particular blogger which further compounds the problem.
I had also hoped, with my fingers crossed, to get a plug from a big blogger. That didn’t happen and while it wasn’t a set-back, it was a lost opportunity to garner some votes.
All in all, the fundamental idea was sound, but it depended on a lot of things going my way, and not many did. I learned a bunch of lessons though and will carry those forward so it was definitely worth the effort.
