Best Shipping Information Page Ever

April 5th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve done a fair bit of shopping around on the net in my lifetime. One thing that’s always a bit of a pain is shipping information. I live in Canada and that usually means that there isn’t any 100% concrete information on some websites regarding shipping. They’ll just put things like “contact us for a shipping quote”. When shopping online, shipping is a very significant hidden cost, especially when you need to order parts from a few different places. That has already happened to me when I was building my Orange Squeezer and again now that I’m heading into a guitar building project. So I know how expensive it can get if you have to source parts from more than one or two places.

Then last night I came across the Warmoth shipping information page. That thing is genius. How do I qualify genius? Well whenever I look at something think, “that’s so obvious, why doesn’t everyone do that?” That’s genius.

So what’s so great about this page? They had their customers fill in a response sheet for their shipping to help other customers get an idea of what they would have to pay in shipping and customs charges, then they published the answers to the response sheets. It’s ridiculously simple and even if you only get a 10% response rate, it’s still more than enough information to give your potential customers an idea of what things will cost them in reality.

So I’d like to offer a big old fashion tip of the hat to Warmoth for providing such an excellent example of a shipping information page that goes well above and beyond to really help people out. This is an extremely good example to follow if you’re developing your own electronic commerce website.
