Get ready for some gushing. While we were at Oceanstone, we got a chance to eat at the Rhubarb Bar and Grill. Included in our package was a five course meal and a hot breakfast the next morning. We had heard that the restaurant was good so we prepared for some good food.
At first I was a little surprised that the menu was fairly limited, but if experience has taught me anything, it’s that a limited menu means that everything on it has to be good. Our meal started with a fishcake for Colleen and a red pepper soup for myself. The soup was nice, but apparently the fishcake was to die for. Whereas most fishcakes are held together by some sort of mash (potato, bread, etc…) this was all fish. Colleen couldn’t get over how good it was. It was then followed up by some baby greens with almonds and a really tasty dressing. Then came the main course of a succulent piece of pork cooked as moist and tender as I’d ever eaten with vegetables and sweet potato. We then had something I’d never tried before, fresh strawberries covered in cracked pepper with Brie. It took me a second to figure it all out since I’m used to far more ordinary food, but once I got the hang of getting just enough Brie with the strawberries, it made for a really interesting plate. The meal was topped off with a hot brownie that was to die for. By far the best brownie I’ve ever eaten with some vanilla ice cream on the side. If you go eat there you have to try this desert.
Overall the decor was very pleasant and open. The chairs were really comfortable and there was a gorgeous chandelier right next to us that I enjoyed a lot. The washrooms were really nice to and I have to say that I really appreciate that. It’s so easy to let the bathrooms slide when you’re putting together a restaurant but it shows that you’ve taken care of the little things when you put the effort into something like that.
The staff were all fantastic. Everyone was working so hard to make sure that all the patrons were happy. Even when we put out a very strange request to pass along a note to the chef for him to give to his wife (an old friend of ours that we hadn’t seen in a while), our waiter didn’t bat an eyelash and our note found its way into the right hands
We got exactly the same level of courteousness the next morning from a new shift of staff. They’ve hired great people and that always makes a restaurant more pleasant to go to.
All in all, it was a great place to eat and try new dishes. The food is exquisite and if it’s included in your package, it’s a steal.

I’ve driven by Inn On The Lake a lot of times, but never actually stopped in. It just always seemed too close to the highway for a real getaway
