Oceanstone

March 18th, 2007 · No Comments

We just got back from a really nice evening at Oceanstone. We’d never been, but we’d heard nice things about it. We found a nice special, the Seaside getaway for two. As listed, it’s $149, but that’s for a regular room. We were celebrating Colleen’s birthday so we thought we’d go nuts and spring for a suite. We ended up in Suite 5 which we were late told is the newest of the suites.

We had a great time. Oceanstone is right on the ocean, nestled in a forested area so it really feels like a getaway. There’s a top down picture of the property on their accommodations page that shows you what I’m talking about. Being in the midst of the trees gave us a nice little surprise once we got there. They’ve got bunnies! Now I’m not one of those people who’s bananas for rabbits or anything, but they certainly add to the atmosphere and if you don’t smile when you see a rabbit hopping across the lawn in front of you, then I don’t know…

Bunny rabbits aside, the room was great. Nice, wide planks for hardwood floor, remote control fireplace, hot tub, huge shower and the decor had a great rustic feel to it all. There were a few driftwood creations and similarly styled buoy-based ducks. I once again had a really hard time sleeping due to the combination a soft mattress and a less than 100% back. Once more though, I can’t fault them on that at all, the bed would have probably been perfect for the average person. There was a nice little library of books and videos right off of our room in a common area as well though we didn’t make use of that feature.

Being right on the ocean was great. We stayed on a really windy night and the next morning the waves were crashing. I absolutely love that sound since I grew up near the ocean and would often have my window open during the summer and would listen to the crashing of waves as I went to sleep.

The service was great, we were met with a very friendly face on check in and check out, even though we checked out a little late. All in all, it was a great place to stay. I’d give it extra marks if you’re looking for a cottage getaway. As you can see in the image mentioned earlier, they’ve got a bunch that are right on the ocean. While I haven’t been in any of them, I’m sure they would would make for an awesome getaway for the family or a bunch of friends.
