Yep, it’s just that simple… Think of the suckiest song you can think of. Now play a few bars in your head. No cowbell is there? Didn’t think so.
If you’re still not convinced, I present the following awesomeness as evidence.
Probably the best song I’ve heard since Blind Melon’s Soul One on Nico. I only found one video on YouTube for it and the sound quality didn’t do it justice so you’re on your own for listening to it. There’s no cowbell in Soul One, but since there are no drums at all in the song it’s not an issue.
So if you’re some band trying to make your latest creation sound just a little bit better, remember two words. More Cowbell
