5/5 Tacks

February 19th, 2007 · No Comments · Web Development

With the advent of the new PPP segmentation came a feature that allows advertisers to do a post-review on the publishers. This helps sort out the bloggers who work hard to write well from the ones who are just out to collect money with little effort. It’s an important component of their segmentation which will likely end up paying dividends over the long haul.

Advertisers rate your performance on a scale of 1-5 with the possibility of a ban. A ban is a bad thing obviously since not only does it prevent you from ever accepting an op from that advertiser again, PPP states that “Bans will negatively affect your overall rating”. While there’s certainly some transparency missing in the system it’s a good fundamental idea.

Why dredge all this up? Simple, today I hit 5/5 tacks (their unit of measure). I had been sitting at 4/5 since the system came into play. The good news is that I hadn’t really missed out on any ops because they were looking for 5/5. Most ops that restrict on your tack score want a 3/5 or above. That’s fair since it leaves lots of room for mistakes. If you happen to have a score lower than that, you can still bring it up because there are lots of ops with no minimum. Do well with those and your average should increase over time.

An interesting side effect of having a 5/5 rank. My submissions are now being auto-approved. While that sounds great, they still say that they will be manually approved. As a result I find the need for an auto-approve system rather low to non-existent. If you need to manually review it anyways, why the automatic system? One reason might be that they get delegated to less senior moderators. That would make sense since a 5/5 blogger is less likely to submit something that should be rejected than a 1/5 blogger. I don’t know how many moderators there are at PPP so it’s hard to tell if this explanation makes any sense or not. I’ll have to wait and see I suppose. All in all though, I’m pretty excited about that 5/5 ranking :)
