Zookoda is a new service to help you build mailing lists for your blog. While that’s not a service that I’ve been looking at I’ve certainly seen it around. Lots of people use blog email to distribute a newsletter to people who will sign up on your website. While it may seem a little strange in the day of RSS feeds, it actually makes a lot of sense for some people.
To start with, not everyone’s “in the know” and understands RSS feeds. For the people who aren’t on the cutting edge, a periodic mailout of your blog’s content makes a lot of sense. Also, a mailout can be downloaded and read offline through POP3. That’s big for people who are on dialup, and yes there still are some. As a publisher you can also send out a weekly mailout that includes the top 5 posts for example. That way people who are only interested in your best posts can get that content without needing to sift through everything you write. It’s a great alternative way to increase your readership in yet another manner. There’s a lot of flexibility in a newsletter, use your creativity.
So what does Zookoda do for you? Well not only are they going to help you manage all of those subscriptions, they’re also going to provide you with stats on your mailouts to help you identify how well your newsletter is working. That’s very helpful because you’ll want to know whether the effort you’re putting into your newsletter is being well received or not.
It’s a very interesting service that merits further investigation if you’re interested in generting alternative forms of traffic. Go check out their FAQ and see if they’re right for you. It may just provide you with the boost you’re looking for.
