New PayPerPost Affiliate Program

So along with the big update that PayPerPost had a few days ago, they’ve deployed a new affiliate program. While its actually a neat idea, I don’t think I’ll be diving in anytime soon. The idea is that you have a badge at the bottom of each sponsored post, similar to the one announcing the sponsored nature of this very post. It will say “Get Paid to Review My Post”. If the visitor clicks on that badge and subscribes to PPP, they’ll see an op for reviewing your post that pays $7.50. You’ll also get $7.50 out of the deal and a “free” review.

While I’m sure that some people will make this work for them and earn a bunch of free money and get a lot of free reviews, I just don’t see it as working for me. PPP apparently botched their first attempt at an affiliate program with lots of people not getting credit for known signups. Given their latest set of programming problems I’ve got 0% confidence that the development team has this comparatively complex system working. You’re more likely to just end up giving them free advertising from their ad network and end up with nothing in the end.

It’s actually a pretty creative affiliate idea. While you get paid half of what you would for a straight-up referral, the free review can have substantial value. It will be interesting to see how the PPP community as a whole reacts to this and several other new controversial features…
