On the heels of Technorati announcing their new service, WTF (Where’s The Fire), I thought it might be a good time to remind everyone that choosing a name is important.
While there’s the obvious mockery that will ensue, that can have its upside. The buzz generated by everyone mocking you will help get the word out. Who knows, that might be the plan.
But in either case, you have to keep in mind that while catchy names may seem like a good idea, they’re going to loose their edge quickly. While they might be good for buzz initially having a tired name is not going to serve you well over the long haul.
The best name is going to be unique and won’t lend itself to trends fads or anything else that can grow old outside of your website/service/company.
