My favourite set of blogs out in the blogosphere are those pertaining to the web from a business perspective. I’ve found another one. Online Bulletin works to provide relevant web industry news to the masses. They’re brand spanking new, having only begun blogging in January 2007, but they’re writing a good amount so far.
One article of note that grabbed my attention was Domain Trend in 2006: PPC Ads. I’m not at all surprised that the big money is being spent just for PPC ads as I was reading in a Business 2.0 magazine that they had spoken to one company that had less than 10 employees (I think it was 5) that turned over $22 million on PPC domains last year.
While I certainly understand the point of view of the author when they say that it seems crazy to spend as much as people are on domains, I think the picture changes when you’re earnings are that substantial and the only asset you use is the domain name. The 1.5 million that cameras.com was bought for is a gamble yes, but when you have the financial backing that the major players have, it’s not that big of a gamble.
At a glance, the posts are thoughtfully written and cover some material that I don’t see posted anywhere else. It seems that a some blogs tend to just recycle the latest biggest news with very little insight of their own to add. I’ve found a bunch of stories on this one that I hadn’t heard yet, all with sideline commentary.

I am glad that you liked the blog! You do have a fair point that the people purchasing these domains for these huge amounts of money do have a ton of financial backing, and it probably isn’t that big of a gamble for them, but for a small time domainer like myself, it is crazy to think that five cents a click can add up that quickly to the million dollar level. Anyways, thanks for the positive comments, and please enjoy Online Bulletin!

No problem, I really enjoyed reading it. As I said, it seems like an absurd amount to me too as a small entrepreneur, but I also know that it’s a matter of perspective.
