Portable Applications, Pull Your Apps Out Of The Trenches

January 19th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Web Development

This post is not sponsored, but this is a solicited review with potential rewards.

I’ve had to move from one computer to another before and I will admit that it’s a wicked pain. It takes a while before you can get all your apps set up properly. Geeks Are Sexy has posted a nice little write-up on some of the portable apps that take care of that problem.

This is the first time I’ve stumbled upon GAS’s blog. They’re a tech news blog and cover all kinds of tech related news. They’ve got a bunch of contributors which is nice since it varies the flavour of the posts as you read through. I generally prefer blogs with multiple writers for that reason.

One of the big problems though is that a lot of the posts, as with many tech news sites, are just one or two lines and then link off to the original article. I like to read what others have to say about new products or new developments. Do you like/dislike what you’re writing about? Why? I want to know because that’s one of the greatest things that the blogosphere offers; personal opinion. The press releases are great for facts, but I like to see some discussion on both sides of an issue. That usually comes from either blogs or forums.

They do however have an excellent section of Articles and Reviews. These are more of your exploratory nuts and bolts articles that try to solve challenging problems and end up being a really useful resource on the web. Congrats on that portion of the site, I like it :)

    Hey, thanks for your opinion.

The main reason I do these kind of posts is because I lack the time to write more in-depth stuff. I work as a full time system administrator, and at night, full time father, so investing alot of time on the blog is difficult. Fortunately, as you can see with our “articles” section, I also know how to create unique content, which what [GAS] is all about.

    Cheers!

That’s a heck of a list of responsibilities :) It must be hard balancing them all. But the articles are definitely top notch, so keep up the good work.
