Video Conferencing Tools

I haven’t dealt with a whole lot of video conferencing equipment so far, but the stuff I have dealt with hasn’t been that great. LifeSize has a full suite of products that are trying to make things better. They claim that their audio solution is way better than the current standard. But they don’t just claim it, they’ve got audio clips to prove it. I listened to the sample audio and while I can’t speak for the accuracy of the LifeSize audio, I can tell you that our fairly recent conference phone sounds pretty much like what they have as the “industry leading” clip. The clip is a bit more muffled than in real life, but not by much.

As for the video component, they claim to do more with less when it comes to bandwidth. At the end of the day though, if you’ve got bandwidth to burn, any video should be pretty reasonable. If on the other hand you’re dealing with low bandwith and trying to do video, well you’re probably not going to have much fun at all. But it might be worth seeing what these guys can do for you if you’re working with a low bandwidth situation.
