I see the word innovative tossed around a lot as I write sponsored posts. Many companies will advertise their service as innovative when really all they’ve done is slightly improved a previous system in a novel way. While that still is technically innovative, I prefer to use the word a bit more sparingly. But imagine my surprise when I found a truly innovative (at least to me) system today.
Peasy.com is a portal that allows people in the UK to rent out private parking spaces. I haven’t subscribed so I can’t comment first hand, but the description sounds fantastic. Obviously, you can post your driveway or other lot for rent, but beyond that, you can actually limit the times that it’s available. That means that someone else could use your driveway while you’re away at work and you get paid for it.
Renting out private parking spaces is not a new thing. It’s been done for a long time and even in a small city like Halifax, I see spaces up for rent. The change is in the organization of it all. All of this commerce was being done haphazardly here there and everywhere. Now people in the UK have a centralized place to wheel and deal. That means more options for both buyers and sellers. I don’t think it’ll be too long before we see similar sites for major North American cities.
One thing that would be nice is allowing people to browse as a buyer without registering. Not having that feature adds pretty big overhead to the people who are thinking about renting a space but aren’t sure. Showing them what they could get would be an extra motivator. I hope they’ll consider this minor improvement.
A car parking portal one of those ideas that after you hear about it, you think to yourself, “Of course, that’s a great idea, why didn’t I think of that?” Congratulations Peasy on the great idea and good luck on making it work out for you.
