If you’re looking to get into the blogging game, thinking you’d like to try and make a go of making some money at it, I do have advice for you. The earlier you start, the better, so start now.
This unfortunately conflicts with a very sound suggestion that many people make. Start with a descriptive, well thought out plan. So how do I consolidate the two?
Well you have to find a medium where you have enough of a plan about your website so that you can choose an appropriate URL and have some content ready to go. But don’t feel like you have to have everything completely 100% decided.
The main motivation for starting early is that opportunities will present themselves as time goes on and if you’re not out of the starting gate yet, they can pass you by. If you’re alreayd up and running with a moderately established blog, you can jump on opportunities as they present themselves with much less scrambling than if you’re still on the drawing board.
Can you still succeed by ignoring my advice and going with a 100% planned out strategy before putting anything on a webserver? You most certainly can. But you may have allowed a few opportunities to pass by as you prepared. That may or may not be significant.

I find this post incredibly vague. What kinds of opportunities? Examples?

Take for example Adsense, if you had gotten in early, there was a lot of money to make with less effort. There’s still tons of money to be made in adsense, but it’s far more competitive now.
Sponsored posting is another place where there’s a reasonable amount to be made early, but it will get increasingly competitive as time wears on.
Most new opportunities have low barriers of entry, allowing for anyone with their wits about them to make a dollar. As it matures, the barriers increase and turns into a situation where the successful become more successful and the not so successful can’t break through.
Sorry for the vagueness, I’ve been tired lately
