It seems that Google and others have managed to find this blog. This intrigues me greatly as this blog currently has no links to it anywhere because it’s still under development, particularly the look and feel. But Google has managed to cache a fair chunk of this blog and I’m indexed at Ice Rocket, a blog search engine that I’ve never heard of. Forgive me if it’s common in blogging circles, I’m new to the game. Technorati has me indexed too and I suspect Feedster does as well since they’ve grabbed my feed but they’re down for maintenance so I can’t confirm that yet. Those two I’ve heard about through Webmaster Radio.
The one item that I know could have been used to find this blog is Bloglines as Billy uses it and subscribed to my feed. But that’s pretty much the only connection this blog currently has to the outside world. I’m even almost positive that I never loaded any of the pages in IE which has the Google Toolbar installed. I know that Google finds some sites based on toolbar data, but as mentioned I’m nearly positive that I haven’t viewed any page with the Google toolbar. I’d also be quite surprised if Billy used any toolbar at all for his browsing purposes. I know Colin’s dropped by but I had been indexed at that point already. All in all I think it’s kind of neat and I do have my logfiles to try and sort out what order these sites found me.
The immediate benefits are that without doing anything I’ve already made a bit of progress on improving my website’s traffic. The major downer about all of this though is that I didn’t get my URL all set up before these bots came crawling. So now I’ll have to set up some 301 redirects which isn’t a big deal, but just an extra step that I was hoping to avoid by keeping this blog on the downlow while I got it off the ground. But you take things as they come on the web. It’s all about rolling with the punches and seeing where things lead you.
