So in the H1N1 drama that’s sweeping the nation, we’re finding that those sick with respiratory illnesses and weakened immune systems are unable to get the H1N1 vaccine. Why is that? That’s because hockey teams have stepped up to the plate and proudly said, “Me First!”
The first ones to get busted doing this were the Calgary Flames. Someone in the Alberta health department ended up getting canned for this, though they won’t release any details so it’s hard to tell whether the right person got canned or not. Most Albertans have their blame sights set on their health minister as opposed to any employee of the system. The one thing lost in this story though is Alberta’s other hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers. Either they’re doing a top notch job of keeping their vaccinations quiet or they are massively pissed off right now. I mean seriously, what would it be like if all the NY Giants got shots but none of the NY Jets did? It’s pretty much the same comparison here.
I’ll admit it takes a lot more than a handful of healthy hockey players to screw things up for everyone. Thankfully there have been enough jerks to go around. I’ve already heard lots of first hand accounts of doctors bringing home vaccinations for their family and a bunch of friends and there’s the all too common jerks who went out early, lied about their medical conditions to pretend they had real health issues. That way those healthy individuals were able to get a vaccine way before those suckers with actual health problems who couldn’t go out and wait for four hours in a line outdoors.
I figure at this rate, another 4 or 5 days and we’ll have reached rampant cannibalism.

When I saw the news about the flames in Metro, I was furious. How selfish of these guys? None of them fall in to high risk zone and honestly, one would expect so much more from these “Role Models”
I can to some degree be ok with these teams used their networks to get the shot for family members who did fall into the high risk catagory, but to have one for all the players and the family can not be over looked.
Horrible!!!!

It’s unfair for those people who don’t have network with serious health problems. Maybe everyone should be a hockey player.

well, that of course is really nasty. but i still dont believe in the whole thing, i think if you look around the web for critical sources there will be a lot of things which come your attention and which do not fit in the bigger picture. for example if you look AT THE OFFICIAL WHO data, you will find that much less people die than people from the normal flue. so whats the problem? it seems less dangerous than normal flue why should i care about it? there is no such thing as a pandemic. just look around and read the and watch (on youtube 4 example) the other sources. it’s just not true what they tell us. it’s the same as back in the 70s when they gaave vaccines to 100 000 000 americans and then stopped as more and more became ill from the vaccination but no swine flue spread at all.

Prioritising people is shameful with regards to people getting the H1N1 vaccine. There are many poorer people who are far more deserving to get the vaccine first and not just sports stars.

They should not prioritize simple as that. The most ill are first then secondly the most prone to illness.

It is unethical and unprofessional on the part of the doctors to monopolize the vaccinations for themselves and their family members. Doctors are supposed to save life of others; here they’re putting the lives of other people in danger! How? By depriving the real needy people of the vaccination while capturing unnecessary vaccinations for their family members. It is shameful. I hope that technology advances soon and new discoveries are made or new stocks of vaccines become available soon.

I do not see this as such a horrible thing. I do not know any other facts in this case, other than the ones you listed. Give these facts, what is so wrong with the hockey players granted the vaccination? They travel far more than most Candians and come into contact with more people than most. Respiratory illness does shower higher danger, but that doesn’t mean that healthy individuals can’t be effected.

I have been getting sick pretty much every month for the last 6 months or so, and I also just had a benign tumor removed from an ovary. I really think that these are symptoms of weakened immune system, is there a way for doctors to test for that? And is there anything they can do to treat me? Thanks!
