After taking some hits through the summer, advertisers seem to be getting back on their horse. It’s not the first time that my revenue has taken a hit over July and especially through August so I don’t think it’s particularly related to the battered US economy as much as it is regular yearly cycles.
Overall, I’ve taken the solid content approach to revenue generation and it still works. It’s not lucrative, but has been allowing me to build a small amount of savings. What’s really hurting though is the dropping US dollar. Since my revenue comes in as USD, a strong Canadian dollar has an immediate and significant impact on my revenue. Then again, that’s out of my control so there’s not much to worry about I suppose.
Slow and steady still seems to be working. I’m not getting rich by any stretch, but then again I don’t want to spend all my spare time doing this.

I saw the same thing with my internet business. The last 10 weeks have been a little soft. The traffic has been really good but the sales just aren’t there.

My web revenue (I am also not getting rich on it) has been decreasing slowly for the last few months. Nothing drastic but it is noticeable. Since I was increasing slowly before that and my traffic has continued to increase slowly I do think it is largely due to the economy – though it might not. If the economy picks up that will provide more evidence (I hope my revenue will pick up but…).

I agree with you, I think it’s the summer, not the economy particularly. I read lots of people talk about their lowered summer income, it should be picking up in the next few weeks

It really does seem that everybody notices some kind of improvement. But I agree with those who predict that at least in the West things won’t rapidly go like they were before..

Regardless of what the government is publishing about the economic recovery in the US, it is wrong. Maybe the stock market is up but consumer confidence isn’t and as a result, retail sales are very slow. This will probably be one of the worst years for Christmas sales.
The US government seems to think that because they flood the media with positive info, it is going to fix the problem. It isn’t – the economy sucks and unemployment is still on the rise. I really don’t see a fix – the fix is for the economy to fail and for all the government programs to be abandoned.

I notice an improvement in the way we think and act and not in the economy. I can only hope, that things won’t go as they were before and that we’ll become more responsible when spending our money.

I sure do hope the whole economy bounces back.
