I remember roaming the halls of the LSC during my first year at Dal. It wasn’t long before I was offered a free CD just to sign up for a credit card. Sounded fine to me since I figured I could just get rid of the card when it came in and end up +1 CD for my trouble. I did end up getting rid of it, but only because I had a card that was more beneficial to me in terms of points and benefits.
I’m on the fence about credit cards. I dislike them because they facilitate debt. I like them because they also facilitate real world living and provide a simple method to pay for largish (large to me anyways) sums of money.
Lots of people offer credit card advice, but you always have to consider whether or not there’s a bias behind the information you’re reading. For example, at the time of writing, I found some credit card news that suggests that it’s smart to have more than one credit card. I personally couldn’t disagree more. It’s easy to brush off owing three small amounts. But if you put them all together on one card, your less than idela financial situation will be more apparent and you’re more likely to take it seriously.
