Jim Carrey’s a funny guy. I’ve been lucky enough to watch him grow through the years from the Jim Carrey I was introduced to when he did stand-up, to a very funny movie star, to a dramatic actor culminating in an Andy Kaufman for a new generation. He seems to have carried a lot of lessons from his role as Kaufman in Man on the Moon.
Nearing the turn of the millennium, he started making some outstanding transitions as his comedy shifted from formal settings into less structured situations like awards shows. There’s a ton of great material of him accepting awards, but this one takes the cake (Warning some brief NSFW language):
Jim Carrey’s Best Acceptance Speech
In case you were wondering, the “so called Oscar race” he’s referring to, is that he wasn’t even nominated for his role The Truman Show after winning the Golden Globe for best lead actor (a traditionally strong indicator of the winner of the Oscar). I’m not sure if the snub for The Man On The Moon (exact same situation) had happened yet when he accepted this award.

Just watched Yes Man not long ago and Carry was excellent in that, he’d kinda nailed a niche for himself. Judging by this video he could have filled Kilmer’s boots in the Doors movie.

I loved The Truman Show. He’s been in quite a few hit or miss kind of films as well though, which detracts from the man’s tallent.

After watching The Trumam Show, I had a high regard for Jim Carrey’s movies and have made it a point to watch every one of them. But for whatever reason, he’s stuck in some no-man’s weirdo land where his antics have been expected to carry each film, instead of a good story or great direction. It’s just not happening.

Yeah, Jim is stunning actor with outstanding commedy, I watched his BRUCE ALMIGHTY, and that was awesome, he rocksssss, I haven’t been through MAN ON THE MOON, but surely want to go to, He has a simple and genuine character, also his actings are natural, infact its difficult to judge weather he was behaving naturally or acting..lol
Hail Jim

Why is Courtney Love going so crazy in this video? Also haven’t found a good reason for him impersonating Jim in this video, but for sure he put up a great show for everyone in the hall..

I loved his early movies, but bar dick and jane his latest offerings have been below par. I think he needs to get back to his roots.

“Jim Carrey At His Best… Nearing the turn of the millennium, he started making some outstanding transitions as his comedy shifted from formal settings into less structured situations like awards shows.”
I like Jim Carrey. He has no qualms in distorting his face. I think this is a sign of how brilliant he is as an actor. All the movies I’ve seen with him in the cast is superb. He’s one of those people who can really light up a certain film with just his presence. I believe that Jim Carrey is always at his best when he appear on screen.

For me Ace Ventura was one of the funniest films I can remember of the old type of humour up there with the likes of spaceballs or monty python.

“he wasn’t even nominated for his role The Truman Show after winning the Golden Globe for best lead actor (a traditionally strong indicator of the winner of the Oscar).”
The Oscars may be the most famous mark of cinematic achievement, but I think no award can truly measure Jim Carrey’s establishment of innovative comedic timing.

Your’e right about those Oskars. I also think that he deserved at least a nomination for Man On The Moon (maybe Truman Show too). I like the guy a lot especially for these roles. But I still remember him from Saturday Night Dance Boys (or sth like that) and his first big role Ace Ventura (not yet blockbuster, but great comedy).

My favourite work of his is “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” It’s a ground breaking film and it really highlighted his abilities as an actor.

Jim Carrey’s definitely one of my favorite actors. I love his work when he did the “Bruce Almighty” flick. Can’t wait what next project he’s going to do.

I think Jim Carrey did a lot of growing up throughout his years in Hollywood. He’s such a mature actor now and he has accomplished a lot as an entertainer.

I think he’s a talented actor, though I didn’t like a lot of his movies. I really didn’t like Ace Ventura but the Truman Show was really good. So I think his movies are pretty hit or miss for me. Maybe I just don’t like his comedy…
