Akismet Flawless So Far

November 21st, 2006 · 3 Comments

Akismet has caught 175 spam for you since you first installed it.

Akismet’s been working flawlessly since I’ve installed it. No false positives to report at this point and it’s caught every single piece of spam that’s crossed its path. I’m very impressed and as a result have lifted pretty close to all of the restricitons on comments for my blog. With the new limited restrictions 90% or more of all comments should make it through without going to moderation. I’m happy about that as I really do want to make things as easy and convenient as possible on my audience.

As I look back now, I feel as if I was living in the dark ages before I set up Akismet. I was notified via e-mail for every piece of spam that was submitted to my blog. I think that setting up Akismet is a must for any new blogger using Wordpress. Take it from someone who’s gone without it for a lengthy period of time; it’s a no brainer, install it, use it and enjoy the peace and quiet it will bring you.

The only thing I ask for is a name/email address. Wordpress blocks comments from open proxies, and it blocks anything with >5 links, but Akismet appears to do most of the heavy lifting. I too am pleased with it.

[...] It’s bad enough that we’re forcing users to enter in additional, useless information, but now we’re increasing their failure rates. This doesn’t generate positive feelings from an end user’s perspective. I won’t stand here for long throwing stones from my glass house. I know that I’ve certainly done things that have made life harder on my users. For example, moderating all of my comments before finding out about Akismet. But when I was shown the light, I reformed. So I ask everyone who’s got a captcha out there. Please think about us before you install the latest version that makes it so hard to parse that people can’t even parse it anymore. [...]

Recently, I see many good discussions on various topics on your blog.Keep the good work going! But what surpises me is that you did not use Akismet or Automatic Kismet.Wordpress initial user documentation has all of it.Guess what, not everyone reads the whole documentation right!
    Anyways,Goodluck and keep Blogging!
